Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental program in which students learn about coldwater conservation while raising brook trout from eggs to fingerlings.  Brook trout are Pennsylvania’s state fish.  Mr. Pence’s 4th grade class will feed the fish, maintain the tank, and record data about the trout.  They will observe and identify the life cycle stages, describe the environmental conditions needed for trout survival in the classroom and in local streams, list ways brook trout serve as an “indicator species” for healthy coldwater ecosystems, monitor and record aquarium water quality and trout behavior, and conclude the program by releasing the trout to approved trout waters in the French Creek in Chester County’s Warwick Park in May 2013.
