Growing for Giving

At UPE, our gardens were built for growing and giving.  Over half of our harvest is donated to our local families in need through Project Outreach's Food Pantry so that they may have healthy fresh foods.  In the United States, we often have food collections and are told to bring non-perishable boxes and cans of foods so that these food pantries can have plenty of stock.  It's great that now we have a chance to share fresh food with more than 200 local families!

During our final spring harvest before summer vacation, our students picked a large amount of swiss chard (leafy, like spinach) and green onions, and brought them to this local "Food Pantry".   We harvest early in then morning, then these donations are made on a few Thursdays in Spring, then almost every Thursday in Summer and Fall.
